    At the medieval venue, EU leaders aim to plot concrete steps to close the economic gap with their global rivals.
    EU has lagged behind the United States for two decades, with weaknesses in productivity and innovation—especially in artificial intelligence—raising concerns about Europe’s global standing.
    The retreat, hosted by European Council President Antonio Costa, includes discussions sparked by 2024 reports from Enrico Letta and former ECB chief Mario Draghi, both of whom have called for ambitious reforms of the single market.
