- Story Text: Oscar nominee Michael B. Jordan reflected on what an "incredible" year it has been for him at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival (SBIFF) on Thursday (February 12), where the star of 'Sinners' was honoured.
Jordan, whose vampire thriller made history with a record 16 Academy Award nominations, was at the annual festival to pick up the Outstanding Performer Award.
Known for his work in films such as 'Black Panther' and 'Creed,' it's his dual role in 'Sinners' that's scored him his first Oscar nomination. Jordan plays twin brothers Smoke and Stack who set up a juke joint in 1930s Mississippi, triggering a bloody gangsters vs. vampires showdown that serves as an allegory for segregation and racism.
'Sinners,' a celebration of blues music and Black culture in the Segregation-era U.S. South, faces competition for the best picture Oscar from 'One Battle After Another,' 'Frankenstein,' 'Hamnet,' 'Marty Supreme' and more.
Now in its 41st year, the annual SBIFF ends on Saturday (February 14), while the Oscars are due to be handed out on March 15.
