- Story Text: As Italy’s Winter Olympics season moves toward a romantic finale in Verona, the famed city of Romeo and Juliet prepared on Friday (February 13) to celebrate Valentine's Day, with visitors and athletes in host cities alike embracing love between competitions.
Tourists packed Juliet's House known as Casa di Giulietta, taking photographs next to the bronze statue and fastening heart-shaped locks and notes beneath balconies linked to Shakespeare's tragedy.
“Verona is very wonderful for us in San Valentino; it's better,” said visitor Alberto Detouille.
Across the mountain venues, competitors juggling medals and relationships reflected the Valentine mood. U.S. alpine skier Paula Moltzan laughed about whether her husband would deliver flowers during the busy circuit.
"He travels 365 days a year with me… we'll see if he pulls it off this year," she said.
Moguls silver medallist Jaelin Kauf planned to celebrate with her boyfriend after racing, while Scotland's Kirsty Muir opted for "a nice date lunch and then compete in the evening."
With the Olympic closing ceremony set for Verona, the games' final chapter will unfold in a city long synonymous with romance.
