- Story Text: Residents of Tucson, Arizona left personal messages on a large banner on Friday (February 13), calling for the safe return of Nancy Guthrie, the elderly mother of U.S. television journalist Savannah Guthrie, nearly two weeks after her abduction.
The banner, featuring a portrait of Nancy Guthrie and the words "Bring Her Home” has become a focal point for community support, as locals expressed hope, faith, and confidence in law enforcement efforts to resolve the case.
The emotional outpouring highlighted a mix of hope and unease within the community, with some residents, like Junean van Orden, expressing how the abduction of a grandmother in their quiet desert city feels "unsettling for everybody."
As the search for 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie stretched into its 13th day, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said the biggest clue by far in the nearly two weeks since she vanished is the video of a masked prowler tampering with her doorbell camera.
A U.S. law enforcement official who spoke to Reuters on condition of anonymity had criticized Nanos on Thursday (February 12) for not using the FBI's national crime lab in Quantico, Virginia, accusing the sheriff of thus effectively blocking FBI access to key evidence.
