- Story Text: With colourful costumes and high spirits, Rio de Janeiro's samba schools prepared to parade at the Sambodrome on the second day of carnival on Saturday (February 14) night.
The parade competition is one of the top attractions of the annual Carnival celebrations that sweep the city every year and each samba school is made up of a regiment of dancers and drummers.
Outside the Sambadrome, performers from the Botafogo Samba Clube, which is related to the Rio de Janeiro football team of the same name, geared up to compete at Rio de Janeiro's Serie Ouro division, where it aims to win a coveted promotion spot to the elite Special Group.
The carnival parades will officially conclude on Saturday (February 21) when the victorious samba schools parade through the Sambadrome once more.
