- Story Text: Fuerteventura’s harbour burst into colour on Sunday (February 15) as dozens of hand‑built, brightly decorated floats known as “achipencos” took to the water for the annual carnival race.
The 2026 edition once again filled the bay with the island’s trademark mix of chaos and creativity with teams launching their non‑motorised, recycled‑material vessels into a 1.5‑kilometre (0.93 miles) course.
Organisers enforced strict rules banning conventional boat parts, polluting propulsion or live animals, and ensuring the regatta stayed true to its eco‑friendly, carnival‑first spirit.
This year, due to the rough water, the vessels couldn´t complete the course.
