- Story Text: Hungarian director Kornel Mundruczo premiered his film, "At the Sea", starring Amy Adams, at the Berlinale on Monday (February 16), addressing addiction, familial reconciliation, and personal accountability. Adams portrays Laura, a woman navigating sobriety while grappling with the legacy of her late father, a celebrated choreographer.
"Laura's journey is a crossroads of true accountability," Adams said in a statement read by Mundruczo, as she was unable to attend the festival. "To move on requires brutal honesty. I hope you feel that in every frame of the film." Mundruczo applauded the six-time Oscar-nominated actor, calling her performance "unbelievably brave" and "pure and raw."
Set in Cape Cod, the film follows Laura's return to her family home after completing rehab, prompted by a drunk-driving incident that endangered her son. As Laura works toward sobriety, tensions rise with her husband, Martin, and children, Josie and Felix, who still struggle with the incident's impact. Simultaneously, Laura faces pressure to return to her leadership role at her late father's acclaimed dance company.
"At the Sea" is competing against 21 other films in competition at the Berlin Film Festival for the Golden Bear top prize, which will be handed out at the closing ceremony on February 21.
