- Story Text: Belgian film "Dust", which premiered at the Berlin Film Festival on Sunday (February 15) captures the quiet before the storm of a big public fall from grace.
Set at the height of the late 1990s tech boom, "Dust" stars Arieh Worthalter and Jan Hammenecker are globally celebrated Belgian entrepreneurs Geert and Luc, visionary software developers who are at the peak of their success who find out that a journalist is about to expose their network of shell companies.
Directed by Anke Blonde from a screenplay by Angelo Tijssens, the film centres on the two men's different reactions and behaviour as they brace for their carefully constructed business empire and reputation to come crashing down.
"I wanted to explore men, white collar men, in power and how they deal with the loss of money, power and success. What remains of their identity, what is left?" said Blonde on the red carpet. "It's a very contemporary theme. Although it's set in 1999, it's really, really urgent that these men step out of their bubbles."
"Dust" is screening in competition at this year's Berlinale and among 22 titles vying for the festival's top prize, the Golden Bear best film prize.
