- Story Text: Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said in New Delhi on Saturday (February 21) that terrorism must not be used as an excuse for interventions outside international law, as he delivered a statement alongside Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Lula, who arrived in India earlier this week and attended the AI Impact Summit, also backed efforts to end the war in Ukraine and called for urgent relief for Palestinians.
Lula said bilateral trade hit a record $15 billion in 2025 and urged revisiting the goal of reaching $30 billion by 2030. He added that Brazil, India, Germany and Japan would continue pushing for an expanded and more representative U.N. Security Council.
Modi said Brazil was India’s biggest trading partner in Latin America and that both sides aim to push trade beyond $20 billion in the next five years, highlighting cooperation in disaster‑resilient infrastructure, critical minerals and defence.
