- Story Text: Women from the Madres Buscadoras de Sonora (Searching Mothers of Sonora) group in Mexico have joined the search for Nancy Guthrie, who has been missing for about 20 days.
Nancy Guthrie was last seen on January 31 when she was dropped off at her home near Tucson by her family after she had dined with them, and was reported missing by relatives the following day, authorities have said.
Raquel Navarro, a 45-year-old Mexican woman, whose brother Jesus Navarro disappeared five years ago, crossed the border from Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico, into Tucson, Arizona, to support the search for Guthrie. Another member of the group, Lupita Tello, 70, has been looking for her son, Gilman Agramon, who disappeared on the Mexican side of the border in 2020.
The Madres Buscadoras de Sonora collective was created in Mexico in 2019 by Ceci Flores, whose two children are missing. According to an official 2021 report from the Mexican Ministry of the Interior, more than 90,000 people were missing in the country.
