- Story Text: "Hamnet" director Chloe Zhao and "If I Had Legs, I'd Kick You" star Rose Byrne were among the celebrities who walked the red carpet at the 79th British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA) on Sunday (February 22).
While action-packed dark comedy "One Battle After Another" is leading the scoreboard with 14 nominations, Zhao's Shakespeare-themed tearjerker "Hamnet" is the bookmakers' favourite to win best film, given its British credentials. Based on Maggie O'Farrell's novel of the same name, "Hamnet" is centered around Shakespeare's wife Agnes and the death of their son. It is nominated for 11 BAFTAs, with its star Jessie Buckley considered a shoo-in for the best actress award, according to bookmakers.
Byrne is competing with Buckley in the same category for her portrayal of a psychotherapist mother driven to the edge in the dark comedy "If I Had Legs, I'd Kick You".
Other nominees present at the red carpet included "Blue Moon" actor Ethan Hawke and "Song Sung Blue" star Kate Hudson.
The ceremony is hosted by Scottish actor Alan Cumming.
