- Story Text: A communal iftar on Monday (February 23) brought hundreds of Palestinian orphans together in Khan Younis organisers said, offering a brief respite from hardship for children who have lost their parents and homes.
The evening meal, held in a makeshift space between rows of tents , included dates, a hot meal and sweets to break the fast. Rows of youngsters sat together to break the fast, a scene organisers described as a small but powerful demonstration of solidarity amid ongoing hardship.
Following the food , a traditional Islamic hymn was performed for the participants.
Local charities, community leaders and international aid groups coordinated the event which was sponsored by the Jordanian Hashemite Kingdom, and aimed at providing food, psychosocial support and a sense of normality during Ramadan.
Many of the children attending have been displaced multiple times and are living in tents, damaged buildings or crowded shelters. The war on Gaza devastated infrastructure and livelihoods across the territory, leaving thousands dependent on humanitarian assistance.
