- Story Text: Taylor Swift's chart-topping album "The Life of a Showgirl" was the biggest record of 2025, the IFPI (International Federation of the Phonographic Industry), the body that represents the recorded music industry, said on Friday (February 20).
The music megastar was also named the official biggest-selling global artist of the year earlier this week (February 18), the sixth time she has claimed the honour.
Swift has now won the award as many times as all other artists combined over the past ten years and this is her fourth consecutive year at the top of the IFPI global artist chart, IFPI said.
The 36-year-old's "Life of a Showgirl", her 12th studio album, record topped three IFPI charts - global album, album sales and vinyl album charts.
“Taylor Swift’s sixth IFPI global artist of the year award is a truly historic achievement." IFPI CEO Victoria Oakley said in a statement.
Swift was first named IFPI global recording artist of the year in 2014 and then in 2019, 2022, 2023 and 2024 the most times for any performer since the award was introduced 12 years ago.
IFPI added that across the wider IFPI Global Album Chart, the soundtrack for Netflix animation phenomenon "Kpop Demon Hunters" reached third on both the global album chart and the global streaming album chart, supported by strong cross-media promotion.
Presented to whoever tops the IFPI global artist chart, the prize is calculated by looking at an artist's or group's worldwide sales for streaming, download and physical music formats during the calendar year and covers their whole body of work, according to the organisation.
K-pop singer Rose and singer Bruno Mars's single "APT.," is IFPI’s official biggest-selling global single of the year 2025, following one of the most competitive years in the chart’s history, IFPI announced on Thursday (February 19). It marks the first time an artist from outside North America or Europe has led the IFPI global single chart and the first time a winning track has included non‑English lyrics.
