- Story Text: Snow swept through Washington, D.C. late on Sunday (February 22), swirling around landmarks such as the White House and the U.S. Capitol and briefly reducing visibility across the city.
The National Weather Service (NWS) said light snow showers were expected to continue overnight. While only minimal accumulation was forecast, the agency warned that patches of black ice could form as temperatures dropped.
A powerful winter storm has already snarled travel along the U.S. East Coast from Washington to New England, with airlines canceling thousands of flights and officials urging people to stay off the roads.
Parts of the Northeast could see up to two feet of snow and wind gusts could reach 70 mph, raising the risk of falling trees and power outages, according to the Department of Homeland Security.
