- Story Text: The newly-appointed managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) held talks with the Nigerian finance minister as she began her first official visit to Africa on Monday (December 19).
She held brief discussions with Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, a respected former World Bank managing director, accompanied by the Central Bank Governor of Nigeria, Lamido Sanusi, and other government officials.
Christine Lagarde arrived in Nigeria on Sunday on a trip that will take her to Niger as well as South Africa.
She is expected to meet President Goodluck Jonathan later on Monday before heading to Lagos to attend a forum on Africa's future.
Her trip is expected to highlight issues of youth unemployment in Africa as well as the potential fallout from the Euro debt crisis. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
