- Story Text: Residents in Kandahar on Friday (27 February) expressed solidarity with Afghan defence forces following cross-border tensions with Pakistan, while condemning Islamabad for the "brutal and cruel" attacks.
The remarks come amid a sharp escalation between Pakistan and Afghanistan’s Taliban authorities, after Pakistani air strikes on a weapons depot near Kabul overnight. Taliban officials said the strikes targeted ordinary civilians, prompting a strong response.
Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid warned of further retaliation if they were provoked again by Pakistan.
At least 12 Pakistani soldiers were killed and 274 Taliban officials and militants were killed since Thursday night, Pakistan military spokesperson Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said.
