- Story Text: Democrats sharply criticized President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address on Tuesday (February 24) as divisive and detached from Americans’ struggles, while Republicans praised what they called a record of delivered promises.
Democratic Representative Melanie Stansbury said the speech was "a pack of lies" and "disturbingly divisive," while Senator Chris Coons said Trump’s claims on healthcare, tariffs and the economy were "wildly inaccurate" and accused him of turning the address into "more of a campaign rally."
Republicans countered that Trump highlighted tangible gains on border security and costs. Representative Monica De La Cruz called it "an exciting night," citing what she said were achievements from "fully securing our border" to lowering inflation, while Representative Gary Palmer said the president had "delivered on our promises" and that "America’s regained the respect of the world," though "the job’s not done."
