Flares lit up the sky over Birkat Al Awamer on Saturday (February 28) as air defenses intercepted Iranian missiles and drones, with explosions echoing.
Reuters was able to verify the location from the buildings, street lights, road layout, and parking lot that matched file and satellite imagery of the area. The date was verified by original file metadata. Qatar’s Defense Ministry confirmed the country was attacked and said they downed all missiles targeting it.
Qatar's defence ministry said on Saturday it intercepted successive waves of 65 ballistic missiles and 12 drones launched from Iran at targets in Qatar, but that two ballistic missiles reached Al Udeid air base and one drone hit an early-warning radar, with no fatalities.
Qatar's foreign ministry said it reserved the right to respond under international law, while the interior ministry said authorities handled 114 reports of shrapnel and that eight people were injured, including one seriously.
