- Story Text:Witness video from Bahrain showed smoke billowing from the direction of the U.S. naval base in Manama on Saturday (February 28), according to a Reuters witness in the Bahraini capital.
Reuters confirmed the location as Manama, Bahrain, from buildings, road layout, and harbour, seen in the videos, which matched satellite imagery of the area. The date when the video was filmed was verified by original file metadata.
Bahrain said that the service centre of the U.S. Fifth Fleet had been subjected to a missile attack. Smoke seen in the video is coming from the direction of the U.S. Naval Base in Manama, Bahrain.
Several Gulf Arab states said they were targeted by Iranian missiles on Saturday after Tehran pledged to retaliate against strikes by the United States and Israel, bringing conflict to a part of the Arab world that prides itself on relative safety.
State media in the United Arab Emirates said one person had been killed in Abu Dhabi, but gave no details.
Kuwait, Qatar, the UAE, and Jordan, all of which have a U.S. military presence, said they had intercepted the Iranian missiles.
