- Story Text: United Nations spokesperson Stephane Dujarric reiterated Secretary-General Antonio Guterres' concerns over escalating military activities in Iran and the broader Middle East on Monday (March 2).
"What is needed now in the region more than anything, is a way out. To that end, the secretary-general again calls for de-escalation, an immediate cessation of hostilities and genuine dialog and negotiations in line with the charter of the United Nations," Dujarric stated during a news briefing at the U.N.
When asked about France's readiness to assist Gulf countries targeted by Iranian retaliatory strikes, Dujarric remarked, "This chain of events is growing and that's very extremely worrying."
"We would like to see a return to the table, and a return to diplomacy,” Dujarric stressed.
