- Story Text: Mourners in the Israeli city of Beit Shemesh took cover against a cemetery wall on Monday (March 2) when the warning siren was triggered by a potential attack during the funeral of a mother and her daughter, killed in an Iranian missile strike on Sunday (March 1).
The mother and daughter were amongst 9 people killed in the attack which also injured a dozen others. The strike hit a residential area in the mostly Ultra Orthodox Jewish city.
The U.S.-Israeli air war against Iran that started Saturday (February 28) expanded on Monday with no end in sight, with Israel attacking Lebanon in response to strikes by Hezbollah, and Tehran firing missiles and drones at Gulf states and a British air base as far away as Cyprus.
After a weekend of bombing that killed Iran's supreme leader, dragged its neighbors into war and shut shipping traffic in the Gulf, markets opened on Monday with energy prices rising sharply, putting the global economic recovery at risk.
