- Story Text: Manchester United's global appeal was underlined on Wednesday (May 8) as fans in Lagos, Nigeria, reacted to Alex Ferguson's departure from the manager's hot-seat.
The 71-year-old Scot announced his impending retirement at the end of the season, bringing to an end a reign that has lasted more than 26 years.
"We are very, very sad," said one fan, Sunday Haruna. "I could have said let him continue because he has done a lot for that club.
"As a Man U fan, in fact, I will go to my website to send a comment. If opportunity is given to me, he can carry on, two years or three years because he has brought success to the club."
But another, Steven Daniels, told Reuters Television that he could have no complaint with Ferguson's decision to go.
"I am happy for him because he has achieved everything in football so he has to go and rest and give other people a chance to come and show their talents," he said. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
