- Story Text: U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday (March 3) he expects oil prices to fall once U.S. military operations in Iran come to an end, acknowledging there could be a short-term spike in energy costs.
Speaking in the Oval Office ahead of a meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Trump said that while prices could remain elevated “for a little while,” he believed they would ultimately drop — possibly to levels even lower than before the conflict.
Merz echoed concerns about the economic impact, saying rising oil and gas prices were already damaging Germany’s economy. He said both countries hoped the conflict would end as soon as possible to help stabilize energy markets and ease pressure on households and industry.
