- Story Text: Elle Fanning, Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas, Amy Madigan, Wunmi Mosaku and Teyana Taylor are competing to win the best supporting actress category at this year's Academy Awards on March 15.
Fanning is nominated for her first Oscar for playing young Hollywood star Rachel Kemp in Joachim Trier's Norwegian familiar drama "Sentimental Value," a charater who finds herself in the midst of difficult family dynamics and on a challenging film set.
Competing with Fanning is co-star, Ibsdotter Lilleaas who plays Agnes in the film, daughter of co-star Stellan Skarsgard's character Gustav, a once-famous director. "Sentimental Value" has been Ibsdotter Lilleaas's breakthrough work, with the Norwegian actor scooping numerous nominations including the National Board of Review award for best supporting actress.
""It's been so surreal to be honest. This has not happened to a Norwegian movie before. So we are all very happy and shocked and on cloud nine," Ibsdotter Lilleaas told Reuters at the Oscars annual luncheon in February, after the film was nominated for a total of nine Oscars, including best film.
Madigan received an Oscar nod for her role as eccentric and dangerous Aunt Gladys in Zack Cregger's psychological horror "Weapons." It is the actor's second nomination at the Academy Awards, after receiving her first in 1986 for "Twice in a Lifetime" in the supporting actress category. Madigan's performance in "Weapons" has scooped several supporting actress awards already, including at the Critics Choice Awards, the New York Film Critics Awards and more recently, at the Actor Awards (formerly known at the Screen Actors Guild Awards).
"I'm very honored that people really like my work and they fell in love with Aunt Gladys. I had no idea that was going to happen," she said during an interview at the 31st annual Critics Choice Awards.
"Sinners" star Wunmi Mosaku is nominated for her role as Annie, the wife of one of the two characters Michael B. Jordan plays in in the Mississippi vampire horror by "Black Panther" filmmaker Ryan Coogler. The Nigerian-British actor recently took the prize for best supporting actress at the BAFTA Awards for her role in the film.
"This film means the world to me. It's been the most magical experience," said Mosaku at the Oscars annual luncheon. "To have it be recognized by the Academy 16 times, knowing that we poured, we all poured everything into it just feels really, really delicious."
Grammy nominated singer and actor Teyana Taylor is competing for her work in Paul Thomas Anderson's action packed dark comedy "One Battle After Another." Taylor plays Perfidia, a chaotic revolutionary leader and the partner of actor Leonardo DiCaprio's character. She won the 2026 Golden Globe for best performance by a female actor in a supporting role. This is her first Oscar nomination.
