- Story Text:A large explosion was seen in Beirut's southern suburbs on Wednesday (March 4), as Israel intensified its assault on the Lebanese capital amid escalating cross-border conflict.Thick smoke billowed over the city, with planes flying overhead.
Lebanon was dragged into the war in the Middle East on Tuesday (March 3) as the Iran-backed Lebanese group Hezbollah launched missiles at Israel for a second consecutive day and Israel sent troops into the south and carried out waves of airstrikes.
The Israeli military on Wednesday warned residents in 16 villages in southern Lebanon to evacuate, citing Hezbollah activity in the region.
Hezbollah said on Wednesday its fighters fired a salvo of rockets at a gathering of Israeli forces near the Metula area along the frontier in response to Israeli strikes on dozens of Lebanese towns and cities, including Beirut's southern suburbs.
