- Story Text: Delegates arrived at Beijing’s Great Hall of the People on Thursday (March 5) as China's parliament, the National People's Congress (NPC), kicked off its annual session.
A delegate from the agriculture sector, representing Henan province, Chen Guochang, said he was looking forward to seeing “increasing investment for agricultural sector,” while another delegate from southern Yunnan province, Pan Jian, hope for development of rural roads during the plenary session.
During the opening session, Premier Li Qiang delivered his annual work report, where he is expected to announce that China aims to target economic growth between 4.5% and 5% this year while pledging to boost both consumption and investment in high-tech industries.
China’s 15th five-year plan, which sets strategic objectives and policies for 2026–30 and will be released the same day, is expected to reaffirm this dual, and contradictory goal.
