- Story Text: China’s annual session of the National People’s Congress, the country’s rubber-stamp parliament, will open on Thursday (March 5).
China’s top leadership will deliver the annual Government Work Report and unveil budget plans at the opening session, along with the outline of the 15th Five-Year Plan for 2026–2030, a sweeping blueprint that sets industrial policy priorities.
Brian Wong, an assistant professor of philosophy at the University of Hong Kong, explained what the NPC and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) are, how delegates are chosen, and the agenda spanning governance, industrial and development policy, foreign affairs and the outlook for the next Five-Year Plan.
China is expected this week to set out how it aims to advance the next phase of its technology race with the West, and turn a series of high-profile breakthroughs in artificial intelligence, space and robotics into industrial-scale production and capital-market momentum. - Copyright Holder: FILE REUTERS (CAN SELL)
