- Story Text: Hundreds of demonstrators gathered in Paris on Friday (March 6) evening to denounce the United States’ and Israel’s role in the violence happening in the Middle East and to call for an end to war in the region.
Demonstrators held up Iranian, Lebanese and Palestinian flags, while some chanted “Donald Trump, get out!” on Place de la Republique square.
“I am very, very angry. I want to shout, I want to say, ‘Stop!’ And that stop hasn’t come yet. This is a horrible war machine," Parisian demonstrator Latifa Amensag said.
U.S. President Donald Trump demanded Iran's "unconditional surrender" on Friday, a dramatic escalation of his demands a week into the war he launched alongside Israel, which could make it more difficult to negotiate a swift end to hostilities.
Trump made the remarks on social media just hours after Iran's president announced that unspecified countries had begun mediation efforts, one of the first signals of any diplomatic initiative to end the conflict, as Israel launched fresh attacks on Iran and Lebanon and Iran sent missiles into Israel and Gulf states that host U.S. military bases.
“I am extremely worried,” French-Iranian demonstrator Firouze Banisad said. “I think this war is delaying and is an obstacle for the fight for freedom and independence of my country.”
