- Story Text: Venezuelan opposition leader and Nobel Peace Prize laureate María Corina Machado arrived in Chile on Wednesday (March 11), to attend the inauguration of far-right president-elect José Antonio Kast.
Machado was greeted at Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport by enthusiastic supporters after flying in from the United States.
Later on Wednesday, she is scheduled to attend the handover ceremony at La Moneda Palace.
On Thursday (March 12), Machado is expected to meet with Chile’s Venezuelan community. Chile hosts the world’s fourth-largest Venezuelan diaspora, with 669,408 people, according to the R4V platform, a network of regional NGOs supporting Venezuelan migrants and refugees.
