- Story Text: A displaced Lebanese voiced on Friday (March 13) a feeling of abandonment as he sat by his tent set-up in Beirut’s Martyrs Square.
"No one, not the government, not the United Nations, no one. No one. No one. No one at all. No one is helping. Everyone's just watching,” the displaced father of six, Manah Alaa El-Din said.
His comments came as United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said in a post on X that he landed in Beirut for a visit of solidarity with the people of Lebanon.
Israel has been carrying out daily strikes on Lebanon since March 2 when Hezbollah launched rockets at Israel to avenge the killing of Iran's supreme leader in Tehran on the first day of the U.S.-Israeli war with Iran.
The Lebanese health ministry said on Thursday (March 13) the number of people killed by Israeli attacks had risen to 687, including 98 children, 62 women and 18 medics. The toll does not otherwise distinguish between civilians and combatants.
