- Story Text: Israel struck several targets in southern Lebanon, seen from Marjayoun, on Sunday (March 8).
The Israeli military said on Sunday that two of its soldiers were killed in southern Lebanon, marking the first fatalities among its troops since Israel-Hezbollah hostilities resumed last week as Israeli intensified air strikes on Lebanon.
The military did not immediately provide further details on the circumstances of the incident.
Clashes have continued along the Israel-Lebanon frontier amid heightened tensions between Israel and Hezbollah following the U.S.-Israeli military campaign on Iran.
Lebanon is being pulled into the widening U.S.-Israel war with Iran on Monday (March 2) after the Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah fired into Israel. Israel responded with heavy strikes across southern and eastern Lebanon and near Beirut, and a rare Israeli airborne raid deep into Lebanese territory that left 41 dead.
The Lebanese health ministry said on Sunday that the rapidly rising death toll has reached 394 people, including at least 83 children and 42 women. Israel's military has so far killed about 200 Hezbollah militants, spokesman Nadav Shoshani said in an online briefing. Hezbollah has not published a toll for its fighters.
