- Story Text: International oil prises eased slightly on Monday as Nigeria Niger Delta militants under the umbrella of Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta (MEND) freed three foreign oil workers held hostage for five weeks.
On the release of the hostages the media adviser to Governor James Ibori of Delta State Nigeria, Abel Oshevire apologised on behalf of the Niger Delta youths to Nigerians and international community on the hostage taking.
He said that the issue of Niger Delta is a great concern to everyone but must not be canvassed through violence.
"We want to apologise on behalf of our youths for what has happened, this is one thing that is of great concern to everyone in the region, we have issues that we canvass we believe we can canvass them without violence and this is the point we are making," Oshevire told Reuters.
The three men, two Americans and one Briton, were handed to the governor James Ibori by the ethnic Ijaw leader who had been asked to negotiate with the militants.
The militants originally captured nine workers of Wilbrose an oil service company to Royal Dutch Shell Petroleum on the 18th of Feb. but six were released on the 1st of March. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
