- Story Text: Texas Democrat Bobby Pulido's mailbox has been flooded with quinceañera invitations days after his Republican opponent took aim at the Latin Grammy winner turned political candidate.
Days after winning his party's nomination to represent Democrats in Texas’ 15th Congressional District,
Republican Representative Monica De La Cruz raised questions about the Pulido's qualifications for the job
On Saturday (March 14).
“This election isn't about who you want performing at your niece's quinceañera. It's about who you trust with your family's future," De La Cruz said in a video released by her campaign.
A professional Tejano singer before he entered the political arena, Pulido and his supporters have leaned into De La Cruz's comments.
Pulido could be seen singing and celebrating at three different quinceañeras on Saturday (March 14).
Quinceañera parties are cultural coming-of-age celebrations for 15-year-old Latinas - who often mark the occasion wearing elaborate gowns, jewelry, and even crowns.
Many are watching Texas congressional races closely and believe it could offer a glimpse of how the two parties are navigating President Donald Trump's tumultuous second term, ahead of November's general election that will decide control of the U.S. Congress.
Recent polls suggest that Republicans may struggle to hold on to Trump's gains among Hispanic voters, while Democrats hope Pulido's many invitations to perform at quinceañera across the state will mean victory at the ballot box in November.
