- Story Text: Mexico earned a Guinness World Records title on Sunday (March 15) with the world's largest soccer lesson, held in the capital of the Latin American country and bringing together more than 9,000 people.
A total of 9,500 people took the roughly 40-minute lesson in Mexico City's Zocalo, breaking the previous record of 1,038 set in the U.S. city of Seattle in 2025.
The Guinness record is part of the activities Mexico has organized in connection with the World Cup, which will be held from June 11 to July 19 in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
The opening match will be played by Mexico and South Africa at the Azteca Stadium, which will host a World Cup opening game for the third time, after doing so in 1970 and 1986.
During the lesson, men and women of all ages followed instructions from the instructors and from some former Mexican soccer players, who led the class from a stage.
