  • Story Text: Chilean President-elect Jose Antonio Kast met with Ecuadoran President Daniel Noboa on Tuesday (March 10) at Santiago's La Moneda Palace, where they discussed regional challenges including migration and transnational crime.
    At a press conference after the meeting, Noboa highlighted the region's shared struggle against organized crime.
    He also said he was willing to join Kast's proposal for a humanitarian corridor to help Venezuelan migrants return home, stressing that it would require coordination among Chile, Peru, Ecuador and Venezuela.
    A day ahead of his inauguration, Kast met other officials, including Spain's King Felipe VI, OAS Secretary-General Albert Ramdin, Costa Rican President Rodrigo Chaves and Honduran President Nasry Asfura.
    Kast won Chile's presidential runoff on December 14, defeating left-wing candidate Jeannette Jara by more than 15 percentage points. He is set to take office on Wednesday (March 11).
