- Story Text: Indian-flagged LPG carrier Shivalik carrying liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) reached the western Gujarat port of Mundra on Monday (March 16), after safely crossing the Strait of Hormuz.
The vessel brings in some much-needed respite to domestic supply concerns for cooking gas amid disruptions to global energy shipping routes due to escalating tensions in West Asia.
India has been facing disruptions in supplies of LPG and other energy shipments in recent days as tensions linked to the U.S.-Israeli war with Iran halted traffic through the Strait of Hormuz affecting shipping routes and fuel trade, raising concerns over availability of cooking gas in several cities.
India consumed 33.15 million metric tons of cooking gas last year, with imports accounting for about 60% of demand. About 90% of those imports came from the Middle East. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
