- Story Text: Hungary banned the export of crude oil, diesel and 95-octane petrol and it will release 45 days worth of state fuel reserves, the government announced.
Prime Minister Viktor Orban said on Monday that Hungary would cap fuel prices to shield consumers and businesses from soaring oil prices. Capped prices will be available for vehicles registered in Hungary.
Some motorists in the city of Eger in northern Hungary were sceptical of the move, worrying it would lead to queues at petrol stations.
The announcement also just over one month ahead of parliamentary elections which could see long-time Prime Minister Orban knocked out of power. But motorists in Eger were doubtful the move to curb fuel prices would impact the vote, saying the election would be decided based on Orban's 16-year record in government.
