- Story Text: Head-of-state diplomacy plays an irreplaceable strategic role in Sino-U.S. relations, and both sides will continue discussions about U.S. President Donald Trump's upcoming visit to China, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Wednesday (March 18).
Trump announced on Tuesday (March 17) that he was postponing his planned trip to Beijing to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping, citing disruptions caused by the ongoing conflict with Iran. The delay comes amid efforts to ease tensions between the world's two largest economies.
Originally scheduled for March 31 to April 2, the visit — which would have been Trump's first to China during his 14-month-old second term — is now expected to happen in "about five or six weeks," Trump said.
The White House did not confirm an exact date for the rescheduled trip.
