- Story Text: U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday (March 20) that there are no leaders left in Iran to talk to about the war, with military strikes continuing to target Iranian officials.
"Their leaders are all gone. The next set of leaders are all gone. And the next set of leaders are mostly gone. And now, nobody wants to be a leader over there anymore. We're having a hard time. We want to talk to them and there's nobody to talk to. We have nobody to talk to. And you know what? We like it that way," Trump said during a speech at a White House event.
In the same speech, he characterized the U.S. effort in Iran as going "extremely well."
His comments came as oil prices rose 1 percent in choppy trading on Friday, as the three-week-old Iran war shows no signs of abating with the U.S. preparing to send thousands of additional troops to the Middle East in coming weeks.
