- Story Text: The sequel to the 2019 horror hit 'Ready or Not' received a UK special screening at London’s Leicester Square this Thursday (March 19).
Set directly after the events of the first film, ‘Ready or Not 2: Here I Come’ brings back Samara Weaving as Grace, the survivor of a deadly game of hide-and-seek played by her elite fiancé and in-laws. In the blood-soaked sequel, Grace is dragged back into the fatal game with more elite families hunting her down.
New additions to the cast include Elijah Wood and Kathryn Newton who plays Weaving’s sister Faith. 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' star Sarah Michelle Gellar also features as one of the rich villains hunting down Grace and Faith.
When asked about her affinity for the horror genre, Gellar told Reuters: "Well, the best roles are always here, especially for women. You know, that's why they have the term 'final girl'. Like in a superhero movie, it's always the guy that saves the day. But this is the genre where women really get to have the spoils, where we're the bad guys, where we are the heroes."
The hyperviolent horror comedy is directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett who are both members of the filmmaking collective Radio Silence. The duo has previously collaborated on the first 'Ready or Not' film along with the fifth and sixth 'Scream' movies and the vampire thriller 'Abigail'.
Bettinelli-Olpin added: "It had been kind of in and out of our lives throughout five, six, seven years. If we had done it earlier, it’d been a different movie and we love the movie that it ended up being so sometimes the right time is just the right time."
For Newton, who previously collaborated with the directing duo on 'Abigail', the satire is 'relatable' with the protagonists taking down the evil elites who toy with the lives of everyday people.
She said: "I think it's funny how art always reflects the times, and we're just hopefully making something that resonates with people."
Gillett said the directing duo make movies that have "very strong messages but that aren't screaming the message from a megaphone".
'Ready or Not 2: Here I Come' had its world premiere at the 2026 SXSW Film Festival in the United States. The film opens in US and UK cinemas this Friday (March 20).
