- Story Text: Enzo Fernandez remains committed to Chelsea, despite his non‑committal comments about his future at the Premier League club, head coach Liam Rosenior said on Thursday (March 19) ahead of a trip to Everton.
After Chelsea were dumped out of the Champions League following a thumping 8-2 aggregate defeat by Paris St Germain in the round of 16, Fernandez was asked by ESPN if he would be with the club next season.
In response, the Argentina international said: "I don't know, there are eight games left and the FA Cup. There's the World Cup and then we'll see," Fernandez, signed for a reported fee of 106 million pounds ($141.58 million) from Benfica in January 2023, is under contract until 2032 at Chelsea.
Chelsea, sixth in the Premier League standings with just one win in their last five league games, will be looking to right the ship and revive their quest for Champions League qualification when they take on eighth-placed Everton, who sit five points behind them in the Premier League table.
Chelsea are a mere point behind fifth placed Liverpool, and toppling the Anfield side would likely yield Champions League football for next season, a status which Rosenior believes Chelsea 'deserve'.
David Moyes' Everton come into the fixture off the back of 15 points in their last 10 games, suffering just three defeats in that time, harbouring European ambitions of their own.
But in December's reverse fixture, a Cole Palmer-inspired Chelsea came out on top, winning two-nil courtesy of goals from the former Manchester City man, and French full back Malo Gusto.
