- Story Text: The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, on Wednesday, (June 4) made a last minute visit to Nigeria to offer his sympathy on the ongoing security issues in some parts of the country.
He met with President Goodluck Jonathan at the Presidential Villa, in the capital city of Abuja.
Welby, who has visited and also worked in some Northern parts of Nigeria condemned the abduction of the schoolgirls and the incessant bomb attacks in the African country.
"Essentially, it's a visit of condolence on behalf of the church to express our sympathy for the struggles and suffering of the recent days and in particular we are aware of the difficulties that have been in the recent weeks. I was particular because I know Jos very well. I was personally, deeply saddened by the bombings in Jos and so I wanted to come and pray with his excellency and express our condolence for the loses that we've seen," Welby said.
Nigeria has been under attack by Islamic militants, Boko Haram, who are fighting for the nation to be an Islamic country.
Since 2009, there have been several bombings and kidnappings.
It took the recent abduction of over 200 schoolgirls who went for their exams to spark a world outcry.
The girls have been missing for almost two months now. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
