- Story Text: Thousands of Portuguese students marched through Lisbon on Tuesday (March 24) to demand better conditions including the elimination of university fees.
"We know this government does not want to listen to us. We know this government is not made for students, and we know that what we need to give this government, above all, is fight," said student David Talete.
A chronic housing crisis in Portugal has made it increasingly difficult for young adults to live independently or start families.
Many students struggle to afford rent while studying, especially in major cities such as Lisbon and Porto, and also face the burden of paying tuition fees at public universities, which they argue should be free.
