- Story Text: A passenger aboard an Air Canada Express jet involved in an accident at New York’s LaGuardia Airport said on Monday (March 23) he was still “shaken up” and recounted the moments before the incident, which authorities said killed both pilots and injured dozens.
“Right before the impact, we felt something maybe like an emergency brake that was pulled or some kind of hard stop before we hit the truck,” said passenger Joe Capio, who was traveling with his fiance. “Honestly, what the pilots did there, I believe saved many lives on that flight and my heart’s just broken for them.”
Kathryn Garcia, executive director of the Port Authority, said 32 of the 41 injured had been released, while nine remained in hospital with “serious injuries.”
The CRJ-900 aircraft, operated by regional partner Jazz Aviation, was carrying 72 passengers and four crew members on a flight from Montreal.
