- Story Text:The textile industry in western India turned to carbon-intensive fuel alternatives on Sunday (March 22), as factories feared closure amid gas supply outages.
Traditional supply routes were disrupted after the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran broke out on February 28, halting shipments via the Strait of Hormuz.
In the country's textile hub Surat, factories were seen using firewood to fuel boilers so that operations were not disrupted.
However, units that solely relied on gas, were facing a sharper impact, with many shutting down temporarily.
The federal government has invoked emergency powers ordering refiners to maximise production of LPG and cut sales to industry to avoid a shortage for its some 333 million homes with LPG connections. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
