- Story Text: HBO Max on Wednesday (March 25) released the first trailer for the upcoming "Harry Potter" TV series and announced that the show will debut at Christmas 2026.
The eight-episode first season will be titled "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone", HBO Max said.
Warner Bros. Discovery announced the series in April 2023 as part of the company's plans for its HBO Max streaming service.
Like the blockbuster movies starring Daniel Radcliffe, that grossed $7.7 billion globally from 2001 to 2011, the series is based on the beloved books by author J.K. Rowling, who acts as one of the show's executive producers.
The show features a new cast, and each season will be devoted to one of Rowling's books. The plan is for the series to unfold over 10 years.
Scottish actor Dominic McLaughlin takes on the role of Harry Potter, with Arabella Stanton playing Hermione Granger, Alastair Stout starring as Ron Weasley and head-wizard Albus Dumbledore played by veteran actor John Lithgow. Actor Paapa Essiedu stars as the dark arts teacher Severus Snape, the first time the role has been portrayed on screen by a Black actor.
The series will be out on HBO and available to stream on HBO Max.
