- Story Text:The friendly match between Mexico and Portugal will be the best possible rehearsal for the World Cup inauguration, coach Javier Aguirre said on Thursday (March 26).
Mexico and Portugal will face off on Saturday (March 28) in a World Cup warm-up that will also mark the reopening of the renovated Azteca Stadium — now known as Estadio Ciudad de Mexico — the same venue that will host the tournament's opening ceremony on June 11.
"I am really looking forward to it because the atmosphere is going to be spectacular, you can already feel the World Cup buzz. We are already there. This is the final stretch of preparation for the tournament," Aguirre said at a press conference.
Meanwhile, Portugal trained on Thursday in Playa del Carmen ahead of its friendly match against Mexico.
After facing Portugal, Mexico will take on Belgium on March 31 at Soldier Field in Chicago.
