Heavily impacted by President Donald Trump's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) job cuts and angry about the deployment of the U.S. National Guard to their city, Washington D.C. residents protested outside the military base where several senior officials are housed on Saturday (March 28).
Chanting “Fight Stephen Miller” and “No Kings,” they marched to Fort McNair, the Army base where the U.S. Homeland Security Advisor and other officials including Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio reside.
Miller, the architect of Trump’s immigration crackdown has pushed for the increased use of the National Guard troops as law enforcement in more liberal cities like Washington D.C.
The march was one of two “No Kings” events protesting the president’s policies in Washington on Saturday.
“No Kings” events were expected in all 50 U.S. states for what organizers hoped would be the largest single-day nonviolent protest in U.S. history. The two previous No Kings events attracted millions of participants.
Saturday will mark the third No Kings Day of Action. The movement launched last year on Trump's birthday, June 14, and drew an estimated 4 to 6 million people spread across roughly 2,100 sites nationwide.
Saturday's protest comes amid what organizers called a call to action against the bombardment of Iran by the U.S. and Israel, a conflict that is now four weeks old.
