- Story Text: On Monday (March 30) the head of Beirut's municipality, Ibrahim Zaidan visited various schools-turned-shelters amid an escalation between Hezbollah and Israel in Beirut.
"We were serving one million people, we can serve two million people as well. it just requires more effort from us, it requires more follow-up from us, it requires more attention from us, it requires more awareness from us." said Zaidan during his visit to a school in Bchamoun.
Israel has launched heavy air strikes and a ground assault on Lebanon in parallel with the war in Iran, after Lebanon's Iran-backed Hezbollah militia fired into Israel in solidarity with Tehran on March 2. Israeli forces have told Lebanese to leave their homes across around 15% of the country including the entire south.
The Israeli offensive has killed more than 1,200 people in Lebanon and displaced over 1 million.
"We wish to return to our home town and our village. We don't want the enemy to continue occupying our land," said Umm Mohamad, a Lebanese woman displaced from southern Lebanon.
