  • Story Text: German Chancellor Friedrich Merz welcomed Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa outside Berlin's chancellery on Monday (March 30) as the president continued his one-day official visit to the German capital. 
    Merz and al-Sharaa stepped onto the chancellery's balcony for talks and a view of the nearby parliament building.
    After further bilateral talks with Merz, Al-Sharaa was expected to speak to reporters alongside Chancellor  Merz at a joint press conference at the chancellery at 2 p.m. (1200 GMT).
